Anthropology Inspired Topiary

So I actually got half this idea from homemade ginger with her anthropology inspired blooms.

First I bought two terra cotta pot from Michaels that cost me a dollar and some change a piece. There are holes on the bottom so I glued a piece of cardboard to the bottom stuck my bamboo skewer through and hot glued from the bottom.

Then I painted the pot with a beige folkart acrylic paint.

Then I went into my drive way and collected rocks to fill almost to the top. This also did the job of holding the bamboo skewer. I added seashells on top to hide the rocks and hot glued seashells around the side.

I then made the ball with q-tips. You can find a full tutorial at homemade ginger.

I just love how they turned out!!! : )

Plate Makeover

Okay. Im Back!! Had a baby on the 17th and Im ready to craft again!!

I bought this plastic plate at walmart for $1. They had all kinds of colors and I loved the edging on this plate that gave it some class.

Up close you can totally tell it was a homemade project but nobody will ever get close enough to my mantel to tell : )

First I measured the flat circle with a protractor. Drew it on a plan piece of computer paper and cut it out by hand. I Mod Podged the paper right on there.

Once that was dry I cut out the design on my cricut and mod podged that right on. I did not give the flower a coat on top because I wanted a dull look.

My mom totally thought I bought this at Pier 1 and that it was a ceramic plate... Project accomplished : )

A Free Recycle Box!

Go Green!!! I have never recycled and it started to really bother me. After I discovered and witnessed what a landfill looked like I was heartbroken for our society and the earth. So I am now doing my part. But I didnt want that ugly blue recycling box they provide you with in my house. What better way to make a recycling box than with everything recycled! I used all my left over scrapbooking paper and mod podged it right on there. Nothing fancy nothing pretty and it still came out super cute! I used stencils and permanent marker to put on the word Recycle.
I am now doing my part to save future generations : )

Mail/Bill Organizer

I had this flat rate shipping box and envelope left over and didnt want to see it go in the trash. So... I decided to use it to help me organize. I just used the zebra duct tape from walmart (almost $2 cheaper than Michaels!!) Hot glued the ribbon and gem on and I was done! You can use this anyway you like. I place my need to be paid bills on the bottom and stick the paid bills in the envelope. Love DIY organizing : )

Old Highchair Gets a Makover

So I found this high chair at a yard sale for a dollar. It was kind of beat up and sad looking...

The legs and the top were pretty beat up. I thought I had a picture of the top. I had to saw off the very top of the chair because the one ball was all chewed up. Surprisingly it turned out nice and probably looked better than it did with them.

I began by giving the entire chair a sand down. It didn't take that long and wasnt all that messy.

I then gave it one coat of primer. It only used half a can!! Love it when that happens.

I then spray painted it with the color of my choice. I now wish I would have done a blue because most of my home and walls are green. It took two coats to get the results I wanted which ended up being exactly one can of spray paint.

I wanted to make it different but also something that I could hand down to friends or family so stenciling names were out. Bon Appetit seemed perfect so I went and bought cheapo stencils and stencil adhesive. I also bought the special sponge brushed made especially for stenciling, Im in love!! This was also the first time I ever used stencil adhesive and the stuff is great!!

Lastly I put one coat of clear coat on it and I was done. My three year old looooooooooooves this chair!! Its all his which makes it super special.

Dresser

So I bought this on craigslist for $30. Probably could have gotten a cheaper one but I was way to excited to refurnish my first piece of furniture. My husband bought me the black and decker mouse sander (you can see it on the top). I went to town. Sanded the whole thing. It was cheapo paint so it took me a while. I used a primer and paint combo, used a trim roller, and put about 3 coats on. I then went to walmart and bought vinyl decals and placed some on it.

But I wasnt feeling that at all. Actually I thought it was kind of ugly. So I went in search of something else. And... I found it at the dollar tree. For a dollar!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Score!!! One dollar and it looks gorgeous! I am so happy with the outcome!

So happy with it : )

Earring Display

I bought the frame at a yard sale. It came in that pretty blue so no painting necessary. I then took one of those woven placemats from the dollar store and cut 5' 7'' and hot glued it right in there. Turned out perfect!

Bookcase Redone

I didnt take any before pictures : ( I always do that!! Im in to much of a rush to make something. I bought this at a yard sale for $3. It was just plain heavy wood. I spray painted it white and mod podged the paper on the back. Its a shabby chick style and I love it!

Kids Chalk Table

I got this table off the free section on craigslist. It was not very pretty.

At first I was going to sand it down and totally revamp it.

After a few strokes of standing I realized never EVER sand black paint. It was all over me and made the worst mess! Not worth the hassle.

So when I left it sit a few days. When I was at walmart I saw the chalkboard paint and picked up a $1 can of black spray paint. I spray painted the legs and used one coat of the chalkboard paint and it tuurned out perfect! My kids love it!
